Just took a reading test from Staples and confirmed that I am still a slower-than-average reader. I mean, I read a LOT, and I love it, and I’ve gotten much faster over the years. But while my dyslexia is mild, it is not something I’ll ever get over, I guess.

You can test yourself here, just remember that these tests don’t really say anything about how smart you are or your potential for success or whatever. I like to think that whatever neurological weirdness makes it hard for me to process written words also gives me a different way of looking at the world that gives more than it takes.

My score fluctuates by 100s of points. Why is that?

Q:how much did you get on your SAT?

perks-of-being-a-procrastinator

edwardspoonhands:

1050 - Which is pretty much exactly average (we didn’t have the writing score back then so maximum was 1600.) Just in case you need to hear this…you don’t have to kick your SAT’s ass to have a good life or get into a good school or get good grades or a good job. I am pretty much fundamentally opposed to applying numbers to people as a way of quantifying their value…seems pretty fucked up to me.

Still though, do your best. Take a bunch of practice tests, that’s what helped me do really well on my GREs when the time came. I wonder how I’d do on the SAT if i took it right now?! Oooo…video idea….

RECOMMENDATION- TAKE THE ACT! I did over 200 points better on it! It doesn’t do many “trick” questions like the SAT. Some people (like me) are better suited to it. At least look into it because most (if not all) schools accept it:-)

Superman does not approve of your ignorance.

This is actually incorrect. Demigod often refers to one with godly parents. Theseus was the son of Poseidon. Therefore he was a demigod. However, there are complications with the definitions (for instance Aeneas isn’t commonly referred to as a demigod). Perhaps Theseus’ lack of supernatural/godlike powers could be a factor in arguing that he isn’t a demigod. Basically, the concept of him being a demigod is a lot more complicated that Henry Cavill made it sound.

Corporate Profits Are Eating the Economy

Here are two things that are true about the economy today.

(1) The Dow Jones industrial average is poised to set a new record as corporate profits stretch to all-time highs.

(2) There are still fewer working Americans today than there were before the start of the Great Recession.

The fact that these two things can be true at the same time might outrage you. But it shouldn’t surprise you.

NONONONONONO Wil Wheaton I was using your tumblr to procrastinate studying for an Economics exam! WHY MUST YOU TORTURE ME SO?
